Publisher Description

"A Kind Life takes readers on a personal journey, laying a pathway of how to live more kindly on the earth"—Keegan Kuhn, co-director of Cowspiracy

What does it mean to live a kind life? In this inspiring book, a mother-of-two provides a blueprint for how she and her family adopted a sustainable, plant-based lifestyle, sharing the eye-opening facts that convinced her they needed to make a change.

Carina Wohlleben grew up at nature’s doorstep, in a mountain lodge surrounded by forests and fields where her family grew vegetables and raised animals. Her father, the forester and bestselling author of The Hidden Life of Trees, taught her about the value of wilderness and the importance of preserving nature for everyone.

But it wasn’t until she was a new mom that she had an epiphany about how her own daily habits were connected to the ecological crisis we are facing and the importance of living sustainably.

After learning that we can reduce our environmental footprint by 25 percent simply by forgoing animal products, she transformed her life, adopting a vegan diet, rethinking all her travel and consumption choices, and rediscovering her connection to nature.

Carina writes candidly about the challenges of making this transition as well as the health benefits she and her family noticed after cutting out animal products. She also addresses issues such as unsustainable agriculture and forestry practices, the environmental impact of our transportation and shopping choices, and how slowing down and making do with less is not only better for the planet but improves our own sense of belonging in nature.

Carina's account of balancing motherhood with environmental choices is interspersed with profiles of young people around the world who are making a difference. This book is a must-read for anyone who is considering a change, and anyone who believes it’s not too late to save the planet.

“Well, another book that I thought would be a bit more about some minimalism lifestyle or slow living but really was not. It wasn't bad though; it just didn't thrill me as I had hoped. This book is mainly about veganism. I am a Pescatarian (but mainly vegetarian), so I could appreciate a lot of the things that were stated about the decision that Carina Wohlleben made with her husband to go vegan. She saw Cowspiracy (which I too have seen once upon a time, as well as many other documentaries that are even better than it). This inspired her to make a life change. What I find so fascinating is that she was raised on a farm where her family raised animals that were eventually killed and she ate, but I guess it didn't completely resonate with her back then. There were things I could agree with and not agree with on her stances, but I can see where she came with her thoughts. It was nice to learn a bit about how Germany handles some of the things in regard to environmentalism. The last bit of this book talks a lot about conservation and helping protect our planet from harm by how we treat it. Most of this book was a bit dull. I did like hearing about her upbringing. There was a bit of a section where she talked about being a mom, but it was brief and more about home births vs. the hospital, which didn't really make a lot of sense with the rest of the book (although I did like that part, as a mother of three myself). There is barely anything at all about buying less or slowing down in this, to me. This should be called A Kind Life: Eat Plants and Save the Planet only. Cut out the rest. content: talk about slaughtering of animals and some details of how they are treated”
“Enjoyed the way information was presented in this book. So many take-aways from this book.”
