“Charlie and his allies search for a missing private investigator, who is obsessed with the Brethren. A fanatical group following a long dead leader who made a deal with a Fallen angel, Belial. The living Brethren must commit murder to keep the dead Brethren from damnation. They are dangerous and elusive. The Collector, acting on his own, kills the Brethren member responsible for eliminating their enemies, and he, in turn, is killed by a Brethren. In the end, Charlie finds the (dead) investigator, solves a disappearance of a person unrelated to the Brethren, and helps unravel the living Brethren. The dead Brethren are consumed by the Hollow Men, now untethered from the Collector. The book felt like it was going a mile a minute.”
