“This story was like taking a quick vacay to another time and place. It was quite enjoyable, especially for how short it is.”
“I read The Haunting of Tram Car 015 first -- this is also fun if not quite as amazing. But I love this book's main character. She's complex, very likable, and well-written. Not tons of world-building the little taste here could hook you for Tram Car. It's a very interesting alternate history steampunk Cairo.”
“I would like to preface this review by saying that it isn't going to be very helpful. I am finding it extremely challenging to determine why this didn't work for me. It sounded right up my alley, and I can't pinpoint where this went wrong. All I know is that I wasn't a fan. Something about the writing/plot/characters failed to grab my attention and I found my concentration wavering. I had the same issue with Ring Shout which I read a while back. Maybe it's time for me to give up on P Djeli Clark.”
“I honestly didn't know short stories could fit this much world building in them. Gas lamp Cairo with a rift to another realm letting in the supernatural and rocketing Egypt into great power- sign me the hell up! We follow Fatma el-Sha’arawi, special investigator with the Egyptian Ministry of Alchemy, Enchantments, and Supernatural Entities looking into a suspicious death of a djinn, she wears a dapper suit guys! it's great. I'll definitely be looking at more from this author.”
