ByPublisher Description
In A Day of Fallen Night,A Day of Fallen Night, Samantha Shannon sweeps readers back to the universe of Priory of the Orange TreePriory of the Orange Tree and into the lives of four women, showing us a course of events that shaped their world for generations to come.
Tunuva Melim is a sister of the Priory. For fifty years, she has trained to slay wyrms – but none have appeared since the Nameless One, and the younger generation is starting to question the Priory's purpose.
To the north, in the Queendom of Inys, Sabran the Ambitious has married the new King of Hróth, narrowly saving both realms from ruin. Their daughter, Glorian, trails in their shadow – exactly where she wants to be.
The dragons of the East have slept for centuries. Dumai has spent her life in a Seiikinese mountain temple, trying to wake the gods from their long slumber. Now someone from her mother's past is coming to upend her fate.
When the Dreadmount erupts, bringing with it an age of terror and violence, these women must find the strength to protect humankind from a devastating threat.

“This book tugged at my heart even more than The Priory of the Orange Tree. Even if you read Priory first, this book is written in such a way that it never feels too predictable while still constantly leaving you wondering what happens next. Fair warning: this book is a lot more tragic than Priory, but the ending is completely satisfying.
This world feels like real history and somehow makes me feel like I’m part of it. The poetry, the symbolism, the use of science and religious beliefs, the diversity, and the clever way Samantha Shannon incorporates real literature and history into the story all make the world feel so alive.
The romance is also very much a slow burn, with more emphasis on political tensions and world threats that just happen to include romance. And thankfully, the romance itself doesn’t feel cliché.
This is how you write women in power without making them feel corny or overly idealized. You can tell Shannon genuinely cares about her characters and the world she created. Somehow feel like I’m mourning the end of a story 😭 (WE NEED MORE ASAP)”
