“I would be lying if i said I was 100% satisfied with A Darkness Returns, book 1 of the dragon war saga. So I’m going to get my sole issue out of the way first.
The darkness has returned… again… and again… between Sethanon, the Serpent Wars and the Chaos wars our protagonists continue to face the same big evil, again and again… and as someone who has been reading this universe for 25 years it’s becoming exhausting.
Fortunately Feist tells a great story and creates great characters, and with a continuation of beloved Firemane Saga characters, we get to see Donte, Hava and Hatu spread their wings, while Declan finds his place as a leader. On top of that we get to see characters exploring worlds beyond their own in ways we haven’t seen since the destruction of Kelewan. I also thoroughly enjoyed this side of Pug, there has been a lightness too him that has been non-existent in some time.
I’m giving this a a 4.5 stars because while I might be exhausted by the big bad… these characters will always hold a special place in my heart.”lindsayreadingbooks

“I loved this! I'm so glad we're back across Midkemia and get to see more of Garn. Fast paced and as a Fiest stan, I'm loving the callbacks to characters from previous books and trilogies. Action packed, characters are great (I could be biased because I've loved them in other books) story is detailed and intricate but still easy to follow. Super fun, classic Fiest storytelling and cannot wait to see what happens in the next adventure!”
