“I liked this one a little less than the first book but it was still an incredible read. My only issue was Tyraks pov. I got so fed up with how much time we were spending on their voice. However, everything else PERFECTION!!!!!!! There was a ton of action compared to book 1, which made me love it more.
At the end of this book, I have so many freaking questions and wondering where the heck is it going? Im so ready to get to the end of the series but I also dont want it to end 😭😭😭 It is a rich book full of action, drama, and pain! Because of the setting, be mindful of some of the themes. Lots of violence and gore and some horrible deaths that had me shook!!”

This story was pretty dark. Darker than the first book. I have read dark fantasy before, but this one was darker than I normally read. Also, a lot of gore. Unfortunately, the details of how the infants were murdered were gory. I had to step away from reading this book at times because I became angry when I read those parts. I wanted justice for those infants that lost their lives because of Tyrak the Terrible was so insecure about the prophecy that he commanded all the infants recently born to be killed.
In the first half of this story it shares how Tyrak the Terrible came to power, and you learn the whereabouts of Krushita, the daughter of Jarsun. In the second half the story it shares how Tyrak progresses to become a better politician and governor to his own kingdom (while still being a tyrant), while trying to get stronger to beat his nemesis who is prophesied to kill him.
I enjoyed the storytelling, except for the gore, and the murdering of infants and innocent animals. The writing style is easy to follow. The only times I had confusion was when the author didn't share right away of how many years had passed between chapters.
I am confused about Vessa, the sage. He seems like he wants to help destroy Jarsun, but then why would he help Tyrak for? Tyrak is one of Jarsun's puppet kings. He wouldn't have killed all those innocent babies if Vessa had not shared the prophecy to Tyrak. So why do so?
I have no clue about Ladislew, either. She's pretty strong, but she also knows her limitations. I recognize she is buying time to kill Jarsun, but I wonder what reason she would have to help Tyrak get stronger? Especially, since he is a mini version of Jarsun. Also, she knows that Tyrak is destined to die by the Slayer, which means he will not be around to kill Jarsun for her. But at the end of the story when Tyrak is dying he sees that Ladislew has betrayed him. So yeah, I'm confused about her. Perhaps Vessa has put her up to it. But I don't know because we also don't get a lot of her P.O.V. either. Nor Vessa's.
I am disappointed on how Tyrak dies. I wanted him to suffer as he died. Not an instant death. After all the suffering he caused, and all the murdering he committed there needed to be justice for them all. I hope I get this sense of justice when Krushita and Drishya kick Jarsun's butt in the next book.
Overall, this was good storytelling that involved a lot of court politics, battle strategy, and action.”
