By Kristen Ciccarelli
A Dark Forgetting by Kristen Ciccarelli digital book - Fable

Publisher Description

Previously published under the title Edgewood.

#1 New York Times bestselling author Kristen Ciccarelli weaves the
epic love story of a magical girl, the boy she left behind, and a deadly curse.

“Lush, dark, and romantic. I could have remained lost in the woods forever." - Isabel Ibañez, #1 New York Times bestselling author of What the River Knows

No matter how far she runs, the forest always comes for Emeline Lark, haunting her with its mysterious disappearances and its tales of fae magic.

When her grandfather goes missing, Emeline is forced to venture into the woods to save him. There, Hawthorne Fell, a handsome and brooding tithe collector, brutally tries to dissuade her from searching, even as a magnetic spark ignites between them.

Undeterred, Emeline enters the court of the fabled Wood King and makes a deal: her voice for her grandfather’s freedom. Little does she know, she’s stumbled into a curse that threatens the very existence of this eerie world she’s now trapped in. To survive, she’ll need to team up with the fiery yet secretive Hawthorne. If she fails, she’ll lose everything she holds dear.

Devastating and romantic, in Kristen Ciccarelli’s A Dark Forgetting, everything has a cost.

"Darkly gorgeous and moving… full of curses and fae magic that will capture your heart and wrap it in thorns before setting you free again, forever changed." - Evelyn Skye, New York Times bestselling author of The Crown's Game

A Dark Forgetting Reviews

3.5
“I went into this completely blind… and somehow still didn’t realise it was originally published as Edgewood. Surprise twist before the story even began 😅 I picked this up purely because it was written by Kristen Ciccarelli. No synopsis, no expectations, just vibes… and honestly? That gamble paid off. I even chose this for my book club, and when it got selected I had a tiny what if I’ve doomed us all moment… but it turned out to be one of my best picks yet. This is a dark fantasy wrapped in eerie woodland magic, with fairytale retelling vibes that feel both familiar and unsettling in the best way. Think whispering trees, creeping shadows, and that constant sense that something is watching 🌲🖤 And the romance? A deliciously slow-burning enemies to lovers that simmers rather than explodes. It builds tension like a drawn bowstring… quiet, sharp, and impossible to ignore. This ended up being one of my rare ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ reads. The kind that lingers in your head like a half-remembered dream you can’t quite shake. ✨ If you love: Dark, atmospheric fantasy Fairytale-inspired worlds Slow burn romance with bite Stories that feel slightly haunting …then this one is absolutely worth stepping into the woods for.”
