No matter how far she runs, the forest always comes for Emeline Lark. She is haunted by its mysterious disappearances and the tales of fae magic lurking in its depths.
But when her grandfather goes missing, the stories Emeline has always scoffed at suddenly seem less foolish. She enters the forest she has spent years trying to escape, only to have Hawthorne Fell, a handsome and brooding tithe collector, brutally try to dissuade her from searching, even as a magnetic spark ignites between them.
Refusing to be deterred, Emeline finds herself in the court of the fabled Wood King. She makes a deal―her voice for her grandfather’s freedom. Little does she know, she’s stumbled into a curse that threatens the existence of this eerie world she’s now trapped in. To survive, she'll need the help of the fiery Hawthorne, who she's so helplessly drawn to. If she fails, she'll lose everything she holds dear.
Devastating and romantic, in Kristen Ciccarelli’s A Dark ForgettingA Dark Forgetting, everything has a cost.

“I really enjoyed this book. It was easy to get into from the very first pages, with effortless world building. The woods and magic gave it such a rich, atmospheric feel which I really enjoyed. One of my favourite parts was the relationship between the main character and her grandfather. Overall this book felt magical and completely drew me in to the story - it is probably one that will stay with me and I’ll think about for a long time. Highly recommend.”
“4,5/5 ⭐
One of my favourite romantasy books of 2025. I absolutely love the characters and worldbuilding. The writing style and storytelling are addictive and make you want to keep on reading. There are various original elements in this story, coated with lots of fairy-tale-like vibes. It’s about discovering what you want, saving people you love, learning to live with the consequences of your actions. The fact that the Edgewood is situated next to our society, adding urban/modern elements into the story, is also very nicely done and might even remind you a little bit of the Cruel Prince. The epilogue, though, felt a bit off to me. But I understand why you need it to give this story the ending it deserves. Definitely worth reading. I’ve also read the Crimson Moth and the Rebel Witch, but a Dark Forgetting is without doubt my favourite.”
