“I just did not love this. It was fine, but I didn’t feel particularly compelled by any of the elements. I feel like a lot of the elements were cool conceptually, but the execution fell flat. I feel like the folklore and mythical beings were not explored as much as I would like. The wishy-washy morality of the king did not aid the story at all as it ensured that the characters who were supposed to ultimately be in the wrong actually had compelling arguments for why they wanted to kill a bunch of people. I also didn’t love the romance as it felt like it came out of nowhere. This is mostly because the main love interest offered no hints as to their true feelings.
In sum, simply flat and not compelling, but I did finish it so I guess that says something.”
