“I enjoyed the old fashioned pictures and verses, but for the most part I did not like this collection of stories. Many of the pictures did not match the text at all. For example, in Twas the Night Before Christmas, a picture of children playing by a Christmas Tree with no Santa in sight is used for the verse "He was dressed all in fur..." Don't forget, the children are in bed during this part of the story!!! Another thing I do not like about this collection is there is no continuity of the illustrations from story to story. I know this is a compilation of old stories, but it just seems hodge-podge the way they are all included together without a unifying look. Some of the illustrations are reused throughout the book. Also... this book won't be appreciated by vegetarians! There are at least two mentions of killing turkeys or geese for food on Christmas. Some of the pictures and poems are a little scary, creepy, and/or depressing, but there are unique poems and little stories here that I have not heard before. This is definitely a book that will be enjoyed more by older children or adults. The phrases are very old fashioned and most of the language used will not be well understood by young readers. A copy was provided by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.”
