ByPublisher Description
The third book in Clarke's beloved Space Odyssey continues the story of Heywood Floyd, survivor of two previous encounters with the mysterious monoliths and the alien intelligences behind them. Floyd is chosen as one of a handful of celebrity guests to witness the first manned touchdown on the surface of Halley's Comet on the privately-owned spaceship
.
But on Jupiter's moon Europa, scientists have spotted the sudden appearance of a single diamond the size of a mountain—a fragment of Jupiter's core. When the spaceship
is hijacked and forced to crash into Europa's ocean, the
is diverted from its original mission to rescue the crew.
Now Heywood Floyd must once again survive an encounter with HAL, David Bowman, and the mysterious monolith-building race with its own inscrutable agenda to shape the destiny of the human race.

“While I did find 2061 the weaker entry in the series so far, I still enjoyed the journey alongside these characters. There are a few twists and turns, but only certain chapters really felt like they pushed the story forward. Without spoiling anything, the book reads more like a bridge between the events of 2010 and what’s to come in 3001. There’s a mystery simmering beneath the surface, but the true impact of 2010’s ending hasn’t fully played out yet. That said, the penultimate chapter left me genuinely excited to dive into 3001. Being fair with my rating, I’m landing at 2.75 stars”
