100 Days of Sunlight
ByPublisher Description
When 16-year-old poetry blogger Tessa Dickinson is involved in a car accident and loses her eyesight for 100 days, she feels like her whole world has been turned upside-down.
Terrified that her vision might never return, Tessa feels like she has nothing left to be happy about. But when her grandparents place an ad in the local newspaper looking for a typist to help Tessa continue writing and blogging, an unlikely answer knocks at their door: Weston Ludovico, a boy her age with bright eyes, an optimistic smile…and no legs.
Knowing how angry and afraid Tessa is feeling, Weston thinks he can help her. But he has one condition — no one can tell Tessa about his disability. And because she can’t see him, she treats him with contempt: screaming at him to get out of her house and never come back. But for Weston, it’s the most amazing feeling: to be treated like a normal person, not just a sob story. So he comes back. Again and again and again.
Tessa spurns Weston’s “obnoxious optimism”, convinced that he has no idea what she’s going through. But Weston knows exactly how she feels and reaches into her darkness to show her that there is more than one way to experience the world. As Tessa grows closer to Weston, she finds it harder and harder to imagine life without him — and Weston can’t imagine life without her. But he still hasn’t told her the truth, and when Tessa’s sight returns he’ll have to make the hardest decision of his life: vanish from Tessa’s world…or overcome his fear of being seen.
100 Days of Sunlight is a poignant and heartfelt novel by author Abbie Emmons. If you like sweet contemporary romance and strong family themes then you’ll love this touching story of hope, healing, and getting back up when life knocks you down.

“Wat een ongelooflijk mooi boek over twee jonge mensen die elkaar vinden en elkaar versterken. Ik heb er echt van genoten en ga zeker de volgende boeken lezen. Dit was echt een zonnestraal in de vorm van een boek ☀️”
“That was such a beautiful, unique piece of art, and I shall cherish it forever. (Proceeds to buy the paperback after I only listened to the audiobook.)
I remember when I first discovered Abby in middle school when I started “writing a book” of my own. Of course, it was only for the fun of creating a story and characters. I didn’t know how much they actually would make a difference. I started to watch her videos and do research of my own on different writing strategies.
My freshman year of high school, I came up with an idea for a new story of my own and started to research yet again. To my lovely surprise, her videos popped up on my FYP yet again, and I got sucked into the loop of her creativity and passion for writing. It was so infectious that as soon as I got a notification that she was publishing her own work, I was overjoyed.
I immediately put it in my Goodreads TBR. Nevertheless, life is so busy in my house. I have so many activities, hobbies, friends, and things to do that, if I’m completely honest, I forgot altogether about my excitement for this book.
I tend to be a mood reader, so a lot of the times it’s just whatever I feel like in that moment. I also tend to read a lot less during school because, well…duh, school sucks. However, lately, I’ve been reading a lot this year, and it’s been amazing. You would think that I wouldn’t have time as a senior in high school, but my love of books has grown too much, lol.
When I found out that I could get the audiobook for this AND it was narrated by the author herself? I mean, come on. Yes, please! I was so excited to start this, even though I had no idea what it was about. Little did I know, it would be beautiful.
First off, is it her first book? Yes. Can you tell? Also, yes. Do I care in the slightest? Absolutely not. It’s not going to be like a Jane Austen classic; those people were just a different breed of human back then, but either way, I loved it. People always criticized books for being “not well written”, especially when it’s an author’s first, but honestly, I think it shows how brave they are putting their work out there for the first time. When you are passionate about something and put it out into the world for others to see, it’s scary (trust me, I know as an artist lol), but it also showcases a masterpiece that deserves to be told.
I love me a good romance book that actually has a good plot in it as well as a worthwhile relationship. A lot of the times when books are just fully centered around the romance, they can all sound the same to me. This actually had something worthwhile.
The story centers around Tessa and Weston. Tessa is temporarily blind and has no idea what Weston looks like. At first, she doesn’t want him to help her with anything. She feels as if he doesn’t understand struggle, but little does she know that his legs were both amputated in eighth grade from an accident. Their relationship and friendship eventually grow deeper, but Weston must face the fact that Tessa will get her sight back one day, and he must tell her about his disabilities. He hides it because he feels like Tessa is the only person who sees him as a person (everyone else treating him with sympathy when he doesn’t want it). She was the only one to make him feel normal.
This is such a thought-provoking dynamic, and it made me invested in both sides of the story. However, I think Weston’s story hit harder for me. No, I definitely don’t have a big struggle with an amputation disability, but I was diagnosed with dyslexia in high school. I felt alone and scared that people wouldn’t see me the same way for a long time. Hearing his story was really beautiful in a way because I related to many of his feelings of self-doubt but also in his accomplishments and acceptance of himself.
Overall, I’m so glad I got to listen to this book and take it in in all its entirety (even though I listened to it in 2 days lol). 1000% recommend for the feels, the characters, the arc of the story, and just in general 🙌🙌

But you don't have to stay on your knees.”
“I am drowning again. But this time I don't need help. I don't need a rescue.
Because I am drowning in perfect beauty. I am drowning in reckless joy. I've fallen out of the tree. And now, I fly.””
