Women Supporting Women: A Book List

1. “Kimi Ni Todoke Volume 1” by Karuho Shiina (or the anime!)
This was one of the first anime series I ever watched, and THE first manga I ever read! Seeing Sawako, who was quiet and often cast aside by her classmates, reminded me a bit of myself in middle school. When I started, I was super quiet and wouldn’t branch out to other people around me, until one girl instantly befriended me. She was my best friend from that point onwards. Seeing Ayane and Chizu take Sawako under their wing, much like how my friend had done for me, was so heartwarming.2. “The Enchanted Lies of Céleste Artois” by Ryan Graudin
I actually JUST finished reading this book for the exclusive book club that I’m currently moderating on Fable (it’s still open to join if you want to read some of the author’s commentary!!) and I absolutely LOVED it. The friendship between the three Enchantresses - Céleste, Honoré, and Sylvie - was genuinely healing. These three girls went through so much together, and I love them with all my heart.3. “The Maid and the Crocodile” by Jordan Ifueko
This book literally owns my heart and I don’t think I’ll be able to stop talking about it for quite some time. Taking inspiration from “Howl’s Moving Castle” and West African mythology and folklore, this story is enchanting. Seeing how Sade navigated the world and eventually became such close friends with, yes, the other women at the inn she worked at, but also all the other characters, was beautiful to read.4. “The Love of My Afterlife” by Kristy Greenwood
A book that completely took me by surprise and was one of my favorite romance reads of the year! I loved seeing how the FMC, Delphie, went from being completely secluded in her home, to finding her own little family. The friendships she made along the way brought the goofiest of smiles to my face. What are some of your favorite books about strong women's friendships? As always, don’t hesitate to share your own favorites in the comments below!
