Who Is Your Favorite Librarian?

Mychal Threets
The Mychal Threets Book Club gives the Fable community the opportunity to read with an inspiring and warm-hearted moderator who has been called “America’s favorite librarian.”Founded by Solano County Library supervising librarian Mychal Threets, the free book club just switched to “Akata Witch” by Nnedi Okorafor, a heart-pounding tale of magic, mystery, and finding one's place in the world.

The librarians that changed our lives

“It's hard to make friends as grown-ups, as adults, as kids, as teens, as people, as human beings, but a book club is such a special way to do that,” Threets told his club members. “I've even made some of my closest friends through virtual book clubs, just bookworms, book dragons talking about shared love, literature, of finding new books together, of making memories.”Inspired by Threets I want to give a couple librarian shout-outs. First to Mrs. Lafler, my grade school librarian, who introduced me to “A Wrinkle in Time” and many other really amazing books. Next, librarian Lydia who ran our very small village library, where I discovered the Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys series that I read every single summer. And finally, librarian Cora, who let me read above my age level and introduced me to some more grown-up books. These three librarians put me on a path to be a lifelong reader.Fable readers shared their favorite libraries and librarians too!

"My middle school librarian Mrs. Bell. She was/is so warm and kind and I remember me and my friends always going to the library after eating our lunch to talk to her the library assistant. I also remember her letting me help people check out books, organize the returned ones, etc. she also had a French club after school and it was so much fun! Last time I saw her was 2021 I believe! She was working the bookshop at the public Library where I used to live."— Megan

"My small town librarian growing up, Cheryl. Apparently my mom ran into her recently and she asked about all of us kids by name (at least 18 years later)."— Taryn

"The Solano County Library was my second home when I was a kid. I love seeing it get some recognition! The librarians there deserve it ❤️— Stephanie

"Mychal is my second favorite librarian. My first is my high school librarian who used to set aside books that she knew I'd like. I wish I could remember her name, and it bothers me that I don't."— Thee Fountain Pen Diva
