"Mine" - The Summer I Turned Pretty by Jenny Han
"You are the best thing, that's ever been mine."The Summer I Turned Pretty Belly measures her life in summers. Everything good, everything magical happens between the months of June and August. Winters are simply a time to count the weeks until the next summer, a place away from the beach house, away from Susannah, and most importantly, away from Jeremiah and Conrad. They are the boys that Belly has known since her very first summer—they have been her brother figures, her crushes, and everything in between. But one summer, one wonderful and terrible summer, the more everything changes, the more it all ends up just the way it should have been all along.
"Sparks Fly" - Divine Rivals by Rebecca Ross
"I'm on my guard for the rest of the world But with you, I know it's no good."Divine RivalsAfter centuries of sleep, the gods are warring again. But eighteen-year-old Iris Winnow just wants to hold her family together. Her mother is suffering from addiction and her brother is missing from the front lines. Her best bet is to win the columnist promotion at the Oath Gazette. To combat her worries, Iris writes letters to her brother and slips them beneath her wardrobe door, where they vanish—into the hands of Roman Kitt, her cold and handsome rival at the paper. When he anonymously writes Iris back, the two of them forge a connection that will follow Iris all the way to the front lines of battle: for her brother, the fate of mankind, and love.
"Dear John" - Conversations with Friends by Sally Rooney
"And I lived in your chess game But you changed the rules every day."conversa
Frances is a coolheaded and darkly observant young woman, vaguely pursuing a career in writing while studying in Dublin. Her best friend is the beautiful and endlessly self-possessed Bobbi. At a local poetry performance one night, they meet a well-known photographer, and as the girls are then gradually drawn into her world, Frances is reluctantly impressed by the older woman’s sophisticated home and handsome husband, Nick. But however amusing Frances and Nick’s flirtation seems at first, it begins to give way to a strange—and then painful—intimacy.
"Better Than Revenge" - Ace of Spades by Faridah Àbíké-Íyímídé
"Oh they didn't teach you that in prep school So it's up to me But no amount of vintage dresses gives you dignity." Ace of SpadesOk, this one is a stretch, but I'll recommend this book any chance I get. Prep school, revenge, secrets. You see? When two Niveus Private Academy students, Devon Richards and Chiamaka Adebayo, are selected to be part of the elite school’s senior class prefects, it looks like their year is off to an amazing start. After all, not only does it look great on college applications, but it officially puts each of them in the running for valedictorian, too. Shortly after the announcement is made, though, someone who goes by Aces begins using anonymous text messages to reveal secrets about the two of them that turn their lives upside down and threaten every aspect of their carefully planned futures.
"Haunted" - Legendborn by Tracy Deonn
"Can't breathe whenever you're gone Can't go back, I'm haunted." LegendbornAn all-time favorite at Fable with over 600 reviews, Legendborn perfectly encapsulates the sinister but heartfelt energy of "Haunted." After her mother dies in an accident, sixteen-year-old Bree Matthews wants nothing to do with her family memories or childhood home. A residential program for bright high schoolers at UNC–Chapel Hill seems like the perfect escape—until Bree witnesses a magical attack her very first night on campus. A flying demon feeding on human energies. A secret society of so called “Legendborn” students that hunt the creatures down. And a mysterious teenage mage who calls himself a “Merlin” and who attempts—and fails—to wipe Bree’s memory of everything she saw. The mage’s failure unlocks Bree’s own unique magic and a buried memory with a hidden connection: the night her mother died, another Merlin was at the hospital. Now that Bree knows there’s more to her mother’s death than what’s on the police report, she’ll do whatever it takes to find out the truth, even if that means infiltrating the Legendborn as one of their initiates.
"Back to December" - In A Holidaze by Christina Lauren
"So this is me swallowin' my pride Standin' in front of you sayin' I'm sorry for that night And I go back to December all the time" iN A HOLIDAZEThis book is almost too perfect for "Back to December." Not only is it a Christmas romance set in (can you guess) December, but it also deals with memory and regret. It’s the most wonderful time of the year…but not for Maelyn Jones. She’s living with her parents, hates her going-nowhere job, and has just made a romantic error of epic proportions. But perhaps worst of all, this is the last Christmas Mae will be at her favorite place in the world—the snowy Utah cabin where she and her family have spent every holiday since she was born, along with two other beloved families.
"Castles Crumbling" - Butterfly Swords by Jeannie Lin
"And I feel like my castle's crumbling down And I watch all my bridges burn to the ground And you don't want to know me I will just let you down."Butterfly Swords It wouldn't be right if we didn't include one of Taylor's "from the Vault" songs on this list. "Castles Crumbling" is reminiscent of a time with dungeons, dragons, and moats and practically begs to be paired with a historical romance. During China's infamous Tang Dynasty, a time awash with luxury yet littered with deadly intrigues and fallen royalty, betrayed Princess Ai Li flees before her wedding. Miles from home, with only her delicate butterfly swords for defense, she enlists the reluctant protection of a blue-eyed warrior. Battle-scarred, embittered Ryam has always held his own life at cheap value. Ai Li's innocent trust in him and honorable, stubborn nature make him desperate to protect her, which means not seducing the first woman he has ever truly wanted.
