You can also explore our public book club directory inside the Fable app. Just follow these steps...- Open the Fable app
- Press the "Book Clubs" button at the bottom of the page
- Click the “Find Clubs” tab at the top of the page to browse a list of public book clubs
- Tap on the club's icon to learn more about the book club
- Click "Join Club" to jump into the discussion.
Starting your own book club
If you can’t find a book club that suits your needs, just start your own club and add it to our free directory!It just takes a few seconds, and members of the Fable community can quickly and easily discover your club in our directory. All you need is a free Fable account. This quick primer will show you how to do it, but visit our How To Start a Book Club page for the complete directions.How to add your club to Fable's free book club directory
- Open the Fable app
- Tap the "Book Clubs" button on the menu at the bottom of the Fable App
- Click "Create new club"
- Add the "Name" and "Description" for your club
- Click "Finish Club Creation"
- Tap the wheel icon in the upper right hand corner to adjust club settings
- Scroll down to the "Access" switch and toggle to "Make club public"
The Benefits of Social Reading
Social reading, or the act of reading with others, is at the heart of the Fable experience.Therapist Ella Berthoud is a pioneer in the discipline of bibliotherapy, or the theraputic use of literature to make your life better. She once wrote that the act of reading can put your mind in the same brain state as meditation. Just like a good yoga class can accentuate the power of mindfulness, reading together with other people can amplify the benefits of reading. “You could say that reading effectively is mindfulness personified,” Berthoud writes in her book, "The Art of Mindful Reading," encouraging us to add some form of social reading to our lives."The benefits of reading with others are unexpected and addictive.”
