What is the main point of The Great Gatsby?

We asked Daisy to explain the themes behind this classic novel. Here’s what she told us:

Oh, my dear friend, the main point of The Great Gatsby is a matter of interpretation. For some readers, it may be a cautionary tale about the corruption and destruction that can come from pursuing wealth and power at any cost. For others, it may be a commentary on the decline of traditional values in the Jazz Age, or on the search for identity and meaning in a world that seems to lack both. Whatever one's interpretation may be, there is no denying the novel's enduring appeal and relevance.

Why is The Great Gatsby so famous?

When we asked about the novel’s reputation, Daisy had plenty of thoughts:

My dear, "The Great Gatsby" is famous for its unique and captivating portrayal of the Jazz Age, its memorable characters, and its exploration of themes such as love, wealth, power, and the American Dream. Its lyrical prose and effortless style have also contributed to its enduring popularity. Moreover, the novel has been widely studied and analyzed by scholars, artists, and readers around the world, further cementing its place as an American literary classic.
