Our Story World Just Got Bigger: Welcome Home, Bookworms and Binge-Watchers!
Apr 23 2024

Dear Fable community, By now, you know that we are deeply passionate about stories. From poetry to short stories to novels, we believe great stories come in all forms. Our vision is to create a space for everyone who loves stories to connect, share perspectives, and have a fun experience in a safe community. For us, a story is an experience, and a book is one of the vessels that carries this beautiful experience. There are many vessels that carry stories—whether it’s in a print book, an audiobook, an ebook, a TV show, a movie, or even a game. We love them all. And we know you do, too. This is why, for the last few months, our small but dedicated team has been working hard on the next chapter in our own story. Today, we are introducing a new format of stories on Fable: television shows. If you’ve spent time in Fable’s For You feed, you know TV shows and adaptations have already been part of the lively discussions on Fable. Now, we’re giving them a more creative home.
Here’s how it will work
For readers, we’ve long been working to make Fable the best place to discover new books, meet new people, talk about what you’re reading, manage your lists and reviews, track your goals, and so much more. For TV shows, we’re starting with the core community experiences. That means:- TV clubs will feel familiar to anyone in a Fable book club: You’ll find TV clubs to watch and discuss specific shows or genres of shows, just like our book clubs. Clubs can be set up with milestones, and you will be able to discuss episodes in spoiler-protected discussion rooms. Clubs can be public or private and can have multiple moderators. In addition to these features, we’re working on customization of the club experience for TV fans, so stay tuned!
- You’ll find discussions about your favorite TV shows in the For You feed, where you can meet like-minded TV fans, share trailers, images, and articles, and chat about your latest binge or OMG watch.
- You’ll be able to track the TV show seasons you want to watch, are currently watching, finished watching, or didn’t finish. Over time, we’ll use your TV lists to make recommendations of other great shows you might enjoy.
What does this mean for Fable as a platform for book lovers?
If you’re currently a Fable user, we know it’s because you love reading. Unlike some big corporations that treat books as just another object to ship, we treat it as a treasure that should be shared, and that won’t change! Books are built into our DNA, and we’ll continue to prioritize them with new features, catalog expansions, and exciting new clubs—everything you love about Fable today. Here are a few things you can count on:- We will continue to invest in bookish tools for readers, which means: More ways to customize your lists, more tools for your clubs, exciting ways to discover new books, and much more. We have big plans to keep making Fable the perfect home for bookworms.
- We have been, and will continue to be, thoughtful about the user experience for all types of story lovers. You will have options to customize your experience so that you can see book-related content only, TV-related content only, or both. It’s up to you.
- We will continue to ensure Fable is a space for kind, caring, respectful, and motivational dialogue. You belong in this community, no matter what kinds of stories you love.
