Who is RM?
Kim Nam-joon, better known by his stage name, RM, is the leader of the South Korean group, BTS. Alongside being a rapper, songwriter, and producer, RM is also an avid reader.Fable has a free book club with more than 1,800 readers that was specifically created for fans to read RM's favorite books together. The club opened by reading "Human Acts" by Han Kang. It's a timeless, pointillist portrait about a violent student uprising in South Korea with reverberations still being felt today.Who founded the RM Book Challenge club?
The book club founder and moderator is named Fawzul, a life-long reader and writer. "My mom would joke around that when my siblings picked up toys and stuffed animals to play with, books were the only thing that made sense to me," she told us in an interview. "Reading had always been some form of comfort to me. Something that deeply made sense." Fawzul said that RM and BTS have a lyricism that many people overlook, and that's one of the reasons she became a fan. "I was studying Literature then and thought of how their lyricism spelled so much like poetry," she said. "A lot of what they wrote spoke to me deeply as someone who was once seventeen and now turning twenty-two." "RM's taste in books has an incredible range from historical non fiction to poetry to modernist fiction to magical realism," she added. "It's not rare you find a book recommended by him that inspires deep thought inside of you and reaches out to your shoulder and shakes you. There was a quote by him that I was heavily inspired by: 'Art is not hard — it's next to us.'"What are RM's favorite books?

Inspired by the fresh start of the New Year, Fawzul wrote a Twitter post to fellow members of the BTS ARMY, asking other BTS fans if they were interested in reading BTS leader RM's book recommendations. She was amazed by the response from readers:"Our Twitter post accumulated about 700+ responses in a day. I knew people were interested. It was a perfect opportunity to learn. I just needed to put in the work. I wanted to make the challenge as accessible and fun as it could be. Nothing too difficult, a book a month sounded doable. A bonus book for the brave." "Five days later, I set up a Twitter account that amassed 5,000+ followers in five days. There were fans who came together to translate our posts into languages other than English and helped each other source translated books as well. It was incredible, seeing such a beautiful response. People genuinely wanted to read and learn more about the world and in extension — themselves."
