Join the Trans Rights Readathon & Support Trans Authors
Mar 22 2023

Recently there has been a flood of anti-trans legislation, bans on trans literature, and anti-trans rhetoric. To fight back, Sim Kern, author of “Depart, Depart!” and “Seeds for the Swarm,” started a Trans Rights Readathon that takes place from March 20th - March 27th. The goal is to read more books by trans authors and raise money for trans organizations. By March 13th, already 450 BookTokkers had signed on. “This is a decentralized fundraiser. Each bookish-content-creator will set up their fundraiser supporting the trans org or individual of their choice,” Kern stated. Kern’s original tweet thread and TikTok included all the information and directions for participating, from filling out the sign-up form and choosing a trans organization to support to making content using the hashtag #transrightsreadathon and supporting the readathon by interacting with other creators and boosting visibility.Sim clarified that the readathon is meant to provide visibility for books by out trans authors, including on-binary and genderqueer authors. Books by cis authors should not be promoted under the hashtag, even if they have trans characters, and authors who have not publicly stated that they are trans should not be outed.

You can read all of these books on Fable and even start a book club and discuss them with friends!
