If you’ve been scrolling through BookTok lately, there’s a good chance you’ve seen the rise of curriculum videos. Arguably one of the coziest trends of the season, this idea lets you satisfy your inner academic while challenging yourself to learn something new this fall.Elizabeth Jean, known as @xparmesanprincess on TikTok, is the creator of this whimsical trend. She notes that making your own curriculum is really about staying curious and reminding yourself that learning doesn’t stop when school does.

How to make your fall curriculum

So—how do you begin writing your own “syllabus” for the season? It’s easy! Let’s get started.

Step 1: Select Your Courses

Think of this like building the table of contents for your autumn. Choose the subjects you’re most excited about, the ones that speak to your inner nerd. For example, my “courses” this fall will be:- The Origins of Witchcraft- Creating a Small Business- Learning Italian- Creative Writing I recommend keeping it to three to five subjects. Too many, and it can feel like homework instead of cozy exploration. The point is to create a framework that feels exciting and manageable.

Step 2: Outline a Routine

This is your chance to learn in the way that feels best for you. Forget schedules and deadlines—think cozy rituals. Set up your study time so it feels more like a treat than a task:- Light a pumpkin-scented candle and wrap yourself in a soft blanket. - Pick up a cute notebook or planner to keep track of your learnings. - Always keep a mug of coffee or tea (and a snack, of course) by your side. The more atmosphere you add, the more your curriculum feels like an aesthetic experience, not a chore.

Step 3: Define Your Why

Behind every subject, there’s a spark that drew you in. Take a moment to ask yourself: Why do I want to learn this?Curiosity is what fuels consistency, after all! Maybe you’re fascinated by the inner workings of tornadoes, or maybe quantum physics has always felt like a riddle you wanted to unlock. Personally, my interest in witchcraft is rooted in wanting to peel back the layers of mystery—discovering whether it’s pure folklore or something more.Knowing your “why” makes your curriculum more meaningful, and it helps you stick with it when life gets busy.

Step 4: Let It Be Fun

Life is too short to chase perfection. If you find that one of your subjects isn’t sparking joy, give yourself permission to DNF it—it’s okay! No one is judging you!This isn’t about productivity or checking boxes. It’s about designing a little seasonal story for yourself—something you can share with friends over dinner, or maybe even invite them to join in on. Who knows? You might discover your new favorite hobby along the way. Personally, I’m hoping to cast a spell in Italian by the end of my semester. That’s it!
