Aug 19 2024
August 12th is International Youth Day, an awareness day created by the United Nations to acknowledge cultural and legal issues surrounding youth.
The goal is to bring international awareness to youth issues and celebrate the potential of youth in global society. This year’s theme is ‘From Clicks to Progress: Youth Digital Pathways for Sustainable Development,’ showcasing the youth’s leading involvement in digital technologies.
Here are some books to read for International Youth Day:
“Pet” by Akwaeke Emezi is a genre-defying novel that asks, “How do you save the world from monsters if no one will admit they exist?” The novel follows a transgender girl who must discern whether the creature that came from a painting is good or evil after it tells her that her friend is in danger.
“Solito” by Javier Zamora is a memoir by a young poet who tells the story of his migration from El Salvador to the United States alone as a nine-year-old.
“Percy Jackson and the Lighting Thief” by Rick Riordan is a Greek mythology-inspired start to a classic and well-loved series that follows a young demigod on the most dangerous quest of his life to save the world.
“All My Rage” by Sabaa Tahir is a heart-wrenching contemporary novel following two Pakistani teenagers fighting to belong and their story of family, forgiveness, love, and loss that spans generations and continents.
“Forget Me Not” by Alyson Derrick is an emotional contemporary young adult novel that follows a teen’s journey to remembering herself and her true love after suffering a fall that wipes her memories of the last two years.
