As everybody celebrated National Day of the Cowboy this month, I put together some stellar cowboy books for you to add to your never-ending TBRs. Keep in mind that this list is *definitely not* exhaustive, since there are so many westerns out there! That said, please share your recommendations in the Fable For You feed. Share the yeehaw-love! “The Chestnut Springs” series by Elsie SilverI feel like most cowboy romance fans will already be familiar with Elsie Silver, but just in case you weren’t already, be sure to check these out! The series consists of “Flawless,” “Heartless,” “Powerless,” “Reckless,” and “Hopeless.” Each book follows a different couple, and all are interlinked (what we often refer to as “a standalone series”). Elsie also has a few other series that would fit in this genre.“The Rebel Blue Ranch” series by Lyla SageThis is another popular cowboy romance series that popped up on social media. The series currently consists of “Done and Dusted,” “Swift and Saddled,” Lost and Lassoed” (releasing 11/5/2024), and “Wild and Wrangled” (releasing 8/15/2025). “Rootbound” by Tarah DewittSmall town, estranged family, tension—exactly what you would want from a cowboy romance, combined with Tarah’s well-known humor and wit. “Upright Women” by Sarah GaileyThis book is a queer, near-future western about Esther Augustus, who stows away in a librarian’s wagon after witnessing the public execution of her best friend and lover, Beatriz.Pstt.. Katelyn, if you see this, this one’s for you (you know who you are).
