Great Books To Give As Gifts

Jason question
I recently gave a friend my copy of "Before the Coffee Gets Cold.” There’s something cozy about sharing that book with a friend, and I hope they gift it to somebody else someday. I love thinking about a copy of this book floating around the world, finding the people who need it.

Fable editors share the books they gifted

Looking for inspiration, I asked my fellow editors to tell me about the last book they gave away. Desiree Worrall-Belanger: I’ll be honest, I rarely ever lend my books to anyone because I’m like a dragon and like to hoard all my copies, never letting anyone near them. However, I do have a few people I know I can trust, so I did lend my copy of “Butcher and Blackbird” to one of my good friends a few weeks back! She’s on a book buying ban, but I NEEDED her to read it, so it had to be done. Cameron Capello:  I gave a copy of “Imaginary Friends” by Stephen Chboskey to my sister because I know she loves horror books. This is by far one of the most eery, uncomfortable books I’ve ever read, and recommend it to anyone who likes some spook in their literature. Written by the author of “Perks of Being A Wallflower,” it is vastly different from his past books but has the same solid character-building and captivating prose. Hayley Dennings: When my friend came to visit a couple weeks ago I gave her a couple books, one of them being “A Song of Salvation” by Alechia Dow, who is her favorite author! It’s a young adult space opera that follows a reincarnated god and a grumpy pilot that must team together to save a beloved DJ and save the universe from an intergalactic war.Alex Posey: It’s interesting—I make a lot of recommendations to friends, but I don’t often gift my own books. I think the last physical book I gave away was Claire Vaye Watkins’ “Gold Fame Citrus,” a work of climate fiction that takes California’s history of droughts to its natural conclusion, rendering the state largely uninhabitable. It’s a slightly less traumatizing book to read right now, after a wetter-than-average year!
