The Hunger Games series by Suzanne Collins Collins instantly captured the hearts of adults young and old with her post-apolyptic trilogy (and now two prequels) filled with complex characters, a pulse-pounding plot, and thoughtful social commentary. The most popular answer for beloved film adaptations was Gary Ross’ 2012 Hunger Games, starring Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, and Liam Hemsworth. As an awe-struck 12 year-old seeing this in theaters when it was released, I couldn’t agree more. The costume design! The special effects! Josh Hutcherson! And while the books will always come first, the films hit home among fans or “Tributes”. Fable user Allison said: “To this day, I still say that Hunger Games has the best movie adaptations of all time!”The Best Picture Award goes to…
The Lord of The Rings by J. R. R. TolkienTolkien’s timeless trilogy has been a favorite among fantasy lovers since The Fellowship of The Ring’s release in 1954. Fable readers tend to agree that the 2001 movie adaptation starring Elijah Wood, Orlando Bloom, and Ian McKellen, captures Tolkien’s expansive universe pretty darn well, with epic special effects, and its stunning setting, transforming New Zealand into Middle-earth. Fable user flygirl said, “So much passion and effort was put into making the movies into true representations. The spirit was kept, and every single decision to keep, change, or leave out, was made thoughtfully.”The Lifetime Achievement Award goes to…
Jane Austen Austen’s acclaimed catalog of novels has inspired several beloved adaptations, but Pride and Prejudice came out on top (the 2005 Keira Knightley adaptation edging out the 1995 BBC series). Fable readers love other Austen adaptations too, including the 1996 and 2022 interpretations of Emma, which also inspired the 90s favorite, Clueless. Sense & Sensibility and Persuasion are among other favorites that have made their way to the big screen. Fable user Susan said: “The 1996 Sense and Sensibility movie had some really nice additions with regards to Colonel Brandon that really strengthened his character and felt true to Jane Austen.”The Best TV Obsession Award goes to…
Heated Rivalry by Rachel Reid Reid’s 2019 novel is quite literally everywhere thanks to the recent Crave TV adaptation starring Connor Storrie and Hudson Williams. It has sparked massive watch parties, a spike in NHL ticket sales, and an unwavering fan base. Fable user SJ says, “absolute cinematic perfection”. I couldn’t agree more.Best adaptation awards from individual readers
