The club is currently reading "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" by Douglas Adams this month. The book tells the story of Arthur Dent, a man rescued from Earth's cosmic doom and taken on a wild journey through time and space. Is The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy a series?
Yes! Adams published several books about the adventures of the characters introduced in "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy." These are all available on Fable. The series began as a BBC radio drama. It was initially called a trilogy but ended up including five different books. It became a "trilogy in five parts" as another joke for readers. Wikipedia has more about the adaptation:"The first book was adapted from the first four radio episodes (the Primary Phase) ... It was first published in 1979, initially in paperback, by Pan Books, after BBC Publishing had turned down the offer of publishing a novelization, an action they would later regret."
Adams also wrote the outstanding "Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency" series, which also got adapted for other mediums. Here are all of Adams' books on Fable!type: embedded-entry-inline id: SsTLp3BAVvt2QvaEAbEvBWho founded the RM Book Challenge club?
The book club founder and moderator is named Fawzul, a life-long reader and writer.Fawzul said that RM and BTS have a lyricism that many people overlook, which is one reason she became a fan. "RM's taste in books has an incredible range from historical nonfiction to poetry to modernist fiction to magical realism," she said."It's not rare you find a book recommended by him that inspires deep thought inside of you and reaches out to your shoulder and shakes you. There was a quote by him that I was heavily inspired by: 'Art is not hard — it's next to us.'"

“Space is big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind-bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist's, but that's just peanuts to space.” ― Douglas Adams
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy Book Reviews
"To read The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is to step into the garden shed of a maverick genius while he's out, to discover what ideas he has left lying around. But it is also as though Douglas Adams is speaking to you personally, gently, as he guides you through a perplexing world, assuring you 'Don't panic.'"- The Guardian
"hilarious in an odd sort of nihilistic sort of way. Take Monty Python and then add a semi-truck load of existential angst. It has been years since I read these books, and I suspect I will be reading them again soon. They are not the shining light of perfect writing, but the written form of humor in these novels are genius. Very few people write humor well."- Lara's Wanderings
"no matter where you decided to start your Hitchhiker's Guide to the galaxy adventure there's one thing that's printed on every single copy of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the galaxy in bright bold red layers and that is 'don't panic' so have a cup of tea make sure you've got your towel and enjoy the journey"- Bookish Thoughts (video below)https://youtu.be/MSYMwHWyqRs
Did Douglas Adams write for Doctor Who?
In addition to his career as an author, Adams also wrote three Dr. Who episodes and served as a Dr. Who script editor for Season 17 of the show. The Tardis Wiki has this great tidbit about how his two writing worlds collided:"the third novel of Hitchhiker's Guide, Life, The Universe and Everything, was originally intended to be a Doctor Who story entitled The Krikkitmen. After the story was ultimately rejected he rewrote the story to better fit his Hitchhiker's series: The Doctor was replaced with Slartibartfast, a planet designer from Magrathea; his TARDIS by the Starship Bistromath (which boasted a perception filter); and the Daleks by the Krikkiters." What does 42 mean in the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy?
In Douglas Adams' universe, the number 42 holds the secret "Answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything." But we recommend you read the book before discovering that secret!Wikipedia has an entire entry dedicated to this particular number that spoils the surprise. You can also watch a dramatization of the classic scene from the novel in an early BBC adaptation: https://youtu.be/5ZLtcTZP2jsWhat happened to Douglas Adams?
Sadly, Douglas Adams died in 2001. He was only 49 years old. His New York Times obituary described his unexpected passing:"The British-born Adams died Friday of an apparent heart attack in Santa Barbara, Calif., a family friend, Elizabeth Gibson, said Saturday. She said Adams collapsed while working out at a gym."
