Books To Read for Hispanic Heritage Month

Hispanic Heritage Month
Hispanic Heritage Month has started! Each year, Americans celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15th to October 15th. There are many ways to observe this important time by recognizing various histories, cultures, and contributions of people whose ancestors came from Central America, South America, Spain, Mexico, and the Caribbean. September 15th is a significant date as it is the anniversary of the independence of several Latin American countries including Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua, while Mexico and Chile’s independence occurred and is celebrated on September 16th and 18th.

Great books by Latinx authors!

This month and all year round is a great time to pay tribute to the generations of Latinx Americans who have contributed to our lives and influenced our nation. I’m sharing a list of books to read to celebrate!

It is known for redefining Latin American literature, being a gold standard for magical realism, and offering a window into understanding human nature and collective history.
“In the Dream House” by Carmen Maria Machado
This is a revolutionary memoir that tells the story of domestic abuse in a lesbian relationship. It boldly dissects the representations and mechanisms of psychological abuse with unique versions of classic storytelling devices, each chapter being driven by its own narrative trope.
