Books for Martin Luther King Jr. Day
Jan 20 2025

As Americans celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day today, I'd like to share a quote from his unforgettable address, "The Birth of a New Age." While speaking at a convention banquet in Buffalo, he challenged us all with these words: "We must rise above the narrow confines of our individualistic concerns, with a broader concern for all humanity. You see, this new world is a world of geographical togetherness. No individual can afford to live alone now. The nation cannot live alone for we have been brought together." Throughout my life, books have helped me see beyond "the narrow confines" of my own life, experience, and privilege. On this holiday, I'd like to highlight a few books discussed in the Left Unread book club. Founded by BookTok creator @michael.laborn, this club is focused on uplifting and amplifying marginalized voices. You can read King's whole speech at this link:https://l.fable.co/TheBirthofaNewAge
