Bio
Pierre Choderlos de Laclos (1741-1803) was a French novelist best known for his masterpiece "Les Liaisons Dangereuses" (1782), a daring exploration of manipulation, seduction, and moral corruption among the French aristocracy. Born in Amiens, Laclos pursued a military career, serving as an artillery officer and later rising to the rank of general. His literary ambitions, however, led him to craft one of the most provocative novels of the 18th century, written in the form of letters that expose the intrigues of high society. The book's scandalous themes and psychological depth made it both controversial and influential, securing Laclos's place in literary history. Beyond literature, he was involved in political and military affairs during the French Revolution and served under Napoleon. Laclos died in Taranto, Italy, leaving behind a legacy as a master of psychological realism and blistering social critique.Choderlos de Laclos Books
